I could tell jim was real scared .You remember that old raft we found ? Well,we pulled it out of its hiding place . We loaded on everything we had and tied the canoe behind . Then we shoved out and floated past the foot of the island .
At the first light of day ,we tied up and hid in a cove . All day we laid there watching rafts and steamboats head down along the island .
When night came, we felt safer . jim built us a tent on the raft . He laid a dirt floor and make a place for a fire . We fixed up a forked stick to hold a lantern .If we saw a steamboat coming,we'd hang a light to keep from getting run over .
From Then on , we traveled at night and hid by day .
